How we move a piano without hurting it (or your floors)
Every piano rides on a piano board, strapped and wrapped in padded blankets. Keys and pedals get wrapped separately. Floors and door frames get runners and corner guards before anything moves.
Stairs get a dedicated stair crew: three or four movers, not two. Tight turns sometimes mean removing a door or railing, and we do that and put it back. On grands, we remove the legs and lyre and crate the body upright on its side.

Humidity, tuning, and where the piano lands
A piano's enemies are shock and sudden climate change. Wrapping keeps the case safe, and careful placement keeps the sound safe: away from heat vents and direct sun at the new place. Plan to tune the piano a few weeks after the move, once the wood settles into the new room.

Can a piano be moved without retuning it?
The move itself rarely knocks a piano out of tune. The new room does. Different humidity changes the soundboard over a few weeks. Move it safely, let it settle, then tune once.
How many movers does an upright piano need on stairs?
Three at minimum, four for full flights or tight landings. Two movers and a dolly is how pianos and backs get broken. We size the crew to the stairs before moving day.
